CAN Bus Communication

CAN (Controller Area Network) is a robust serial communication protocol designed for reliable communication in electrically noisy environments, originally developed for automotive use.

What is CAN Bus?

CAN allows microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other's applications without a host computer. It uses differential signaling and non-destructive arbitration to guarantee that the highest priority messages are transmitted without delay or corruption.

How We Use It

  • Vehicle Electronics: Integrating custom modules into existing automotive networks or developing specialized vehicle control systems.
  • Industrial Machinery: Connecting motor controllers, sensors, and HMIs in heavy equipment.
  • Multi-Node Systems: Distributing intelligence across multiple microcontrollers working in concert.

Technical Details

We work with both standard (CAN 2.0A, 11-bit identifier) and extended (CAN 2.0B, 29-bit identifier) frames. Our hardware designs ensure proper bus termination and protection. In firmware, we configure MCU CAN controllers (like those in the STM32 family) to handle hardware-level message filtering, buffering, and error management, minimizing CPU overhead while maximizing network reliability.
